New and returning users should contact Limif staff in order to get training and gain access to the systems of the facility:
- New users will be given access to the systems after following adequate training by JM Vanderwinden or M Martens.
- Returning users, who have not used the microscopes for an extended period, are encouraged to ask for a refresher course.
- Advanced users, who are interested in advanced microscopy techniques (e.g. FRAP, FRET, Spectral imaging …) can ask for specific training in these techniques.
Confocal training (LSM780): basic
Confocal training comprises of two sessions of two hours each, using ZEN software. The training covers fluorescence and confocal imaging starting from basic microscopy theory and concepts. It allows you to do multidimensional sequential imaging. The first 2 hour session is mostly a demonstration session, while the next 2 hour session is more hands-on, under supervision, to get acquainted with the software and the microscope. At the end of the second training, you can try to get your first image of your own sample. 10 hours of individual use, on the system on which you where trained and booked at your own convenience but within 90 days after the last training session, are included in the training fee.
Confocal training (LSM780): advanced
The confocal basic training is required before the advanced training can be followed because users should first be familiar with the ZEN software and the microscope. This advanced training comprises one session of two hours with the focus on simultaneous and quasi-simultaneous imaging, multiphoton-imaging, spectral imaging, non-descanned imaging, use of CO2 and incubator. 10 hours of individual use, on the system on which you where trained and booked at your own convenience but within 90 days after the training, are included in the training fee.
Axio (widefield)
The training for the Axio is independent of the confocal training and covers basic fluorescence and microscopy concepts, as well as the operation of the system. It comprises one session of two hours.
V16 (widefield)
The training for the Axio is run independent of the confocal training and covers basic fluorescence and microscopy concepts, as well as the operation of the system. It comprises one session of two hours.
Lightsheet mesoscope (Miltenyi Ultramicroscope II)
The training for the lightsheet is currently run independently of the confocal training and covers lightsheet microscopy concepts, hints to prepare and mount samples as well as the operation of the system and software. It comprises one session of two hours.
Aurox spinning disk confocal
The training for the Aurox spinning disk confocal is currently run independently of the confocal LSM training. It focuses on using the microscope and the specific software to operate it. It comprises one session of one hours.
Software (Imaris, Huygens – SVI, ZEN blue, ZEN black, ImageJ)
Software training and advice can be provided on request. It is never general; always dedicated to your own image data and your own specific questions.
